Ranged is a Combat skill. Unlike Melee, which uses both
Attack and
Strength when attacking monsters in combat, the player's Ranged level affects both accuracy and damage. The Ranged skill also determines what Ranged armour, Ranged weapons, and ammo the player can use.
Players using Ranged will gain Combat Triangle bonuses against monsters that use Magic and penalties against monsters that use
Melee.
Mechanics
There are three Ranged attack styles: Accurate, Rapid, and Longrange. Each Ranged attack uses ammunition (ammo), which is equipped to a dedicated gear slot. Bows use arrows, crossbows use bolts, and javelins and throwing knives act as both a one-handed weapon and their ammo. Ammo can be created in Fletching or obtained by killing monsters.
0.4 Ranged XP is earned per point of damage dealt with a Ranged weapon. When using the Rapid or Accurate styles, this XP is applied directly to the Ranged skill. When using the Longrange style, the XP is split evenly between Ranged and Defence.
In addition to affecting how experience is distributed, each Ranged attack style has a special bonus:
- Accurate: +6 Hidden Ranged Level, slightly improving the player's Ranged Accuracy Rating.
- Rapid: -0.4s Attack Interval, making the player's attacks 0.4 seconds faster. This is the recommended style for increasing XP per hour.
- Longrange: +3 Hidden Ranged Level and +3 Hidden Defence Level, slightly improving the player's Ranged Accuracy Rating and Evasion Rating.
Skill Level Unlocks
Increasing the Ranged skill allows the player to equip more powerful Ranged weapons and armour. The player's accuracy and damage with any Ranged attack style also scale with Ranged level.
Skillcapes
The standard and superior skillcapes for this skill can be purchased from the store for 1,000,000 and 10,000,000
after the player reaches
Level 99 and
Level 120, respectively. Reaching
Level 120 requires the
Throne of the Herald Expansion.
