This article is about training the Firemaking skill. For the skill itself, see
Firemaking.
Boosts
There are several items you can use to increase the rate at which you train the Firemaking skill:
Name
|
Description
|
Ancient Ring of Skills |
The Ancient Ring of Skills is a rare drop that can be found while Fishing. It increases the XP gained from non-combat skills by 8%.
|
Firemaking Skillcape |
The Firemaking Skillcape provides a +5% boost to XP gained in any skill when worn. While this cannot be used for training before Level 99, it may still prove beneficial if training to a higher virtual skill level such as 120.
|
Pyro |
The Firemaking pet provides a +1% boost to XP gained in any skill.
|
Book of Scholars |
The Book of Scholars provides a +3% boost to XP gained in any skill when worn.
|
Art of Control |
After beating the Fire God Dungeon players can purchase Art of Control, which decreases the time per action for Firemaking and Smithing by 15%.
|
Devil |
A high level Summoning familiar, which reduces the burn time of logs by 5% of the base burn time when active.
|
Obs 2: Monkey Bars |
When built, this obstacle provides a 4% reduction to the base burn time of logs.
|
Obs 3: Stepping Stones |
When built, this obstacle provides a +3% boost to Firemaking XP gained.
|
Log Mastery Level |
The burn time for a log is reduced by 0.1% for each mastery level that same log has.
|
Controlled Heat Potion |
Automatically relight Bonfires for free using the currently selected Logs.
|
Players should also consider utilising the Crown of Rhaelyx and Agility obstacles which provide a chance to preserve resources. While this will not reduce the time spent training Firemaking, it will reduce the amount of time required to gather logs in preparation of any Firemaking training.
Bonfires
While firemaking the player has the option to light a bonfire at the cost of 10 logs. This action itself does not give experience; bonfires instead provide bonus experience for firemaking when lit.
Instead of lighting bonfires manually, players may also choose to use Controlled Heat Potions, which will relight bonfires for free after the first has been lit.
Strategy: Level 1-99
Note that:
- The With Bonfire section assumes that Controlled Heat Potions are active, as such the number of logs excludes logs used to light bonfires. Further, using the Controlled Heat Potion is highly recommended due to the significant time and log saving they provide
- The below table assumes no XP bonuses or burn time reductions apply. In reality, the time experienced by the player will be lower than is stated below due to each log's burn time reducing by 0.1% for each Mastery level that same log has, and any other burn time reductions the player may have active (See Boosts).
- Log amounts stated are before resource preservation, so the actual number of logs used will be lower if the player is using things that provide a chance to preserve resources such as the Crown of Rhaelyx or one of the many Agility obstacles that provides resource preservation.
- If the player does not have enough Magic Logs to reach level 99, then burning Yew Logs instead is preferred to Redwood Logs due to their higher XP rate.

1 Due to the time taken to gather Magic Logs, burning them is only worthwhile if they have already been acquired. If additional Magic Logs would have to be acquired through Woodcutting or otherwise, then consider burning Yew Logs instead.
