In order to level up Prayer you will need to earn Prayer Points. You will get a small number of Prayer Points by buring bones from monster drops, but you can get more through by Slayer re-supplies from the Shop, and Blessed Offering in the Alternative Magic. See the table at the end of this guide for a full list of prayer point sources.

In order to start earning prayer XP, you must activate prayers. Initially, you will be restricted to lower cost prayers such as Ultimate Strength. You should pick the prayers that work with your Combat style, and when you fight monsters your Prayer XP will start to increase.

The Prayers will show the amount of XP you will receive. Note that certain prayers will not give XP, and these should be avoided if you are trying to level this skill. Additionally, if you die, or if you change Combat then check that will want to check on your prayers as these may not be set correctly.

Improving XP rates

Your XP rate will depend on your damage done as well as your prayer point expenditure and is calculated as:

[math]\displaystyle{ Prayer\ XP\ gained = \dfrac {Damage\ dealt \times Prayer\ Point\ cost}{30} }[/math]

You will be able to improve your XP rate by killing higher HP monsters, monsters with low-evasion, and enemies with a slower attack speed, or by using higher cost prayers such as Chivalry. You likely want to reduce prayer point usage as detailed on the Prayer page.
