Some Slayer Areas have area effects, which will negatively impact the player while in combat with [[monsters]] within that area. The strength of these effects can be reduced by wearing equipment which provides Slayer area effect negation, a complete list of such equipment is provided [[#Items with Area Effect Negation|below]].

There are two types of effect negation: percentage and flat, where percentage negations are applied before flat negations. The difference between the two types can be illustrated with a simple example: Suppose an area has an effect of -30% accuracy rating, then:
As of v0.19.2, all available sources of Slayer Area Effect Negation are flat reductions. This means the negation amount is directly subtracted from the effect. For example, if a player is fighting in the {{Shrouded Badlands}} with its area effect of -40% Accuracy Rating and is wearing {{ItemIcon|Slayer Helmet (Elite)}} (15% flat Slayer Area Effect negation), they will suffer only -25% Accuracy Rating.
* A '''percentage''' negation of 10% would reduce the area effect to 90% of its original strength, so the area effect would instead reduce the player's accuracy ratings by <math>30 \times \left (1 - \tfrac{10}{100} \right ) = 27\%</math>
* A '''flat''' negation of 10% would reduce the area effect by 10 percentage points, which would reduce the player's accuracy ratings by <math>30 - 10 = 20\%</math>

In other words, the reduced strength of an area effect can be calculated using the following formula:
As of v0.19.2, all Slayer Areas that have an area effect have a 40% penalty, which means any combination of items that reaches 40% Slayer Area Effect Negation (For example, {{ItemIcon|Slayer Platebody (Master)}} + {{ItemIcon|Max Skillcape}}) will completely remove the Slayer Area Effect penalty.

<math>\text{Reduced Area Effect Strength(%)} = max \left ( \left \lfloor \text{Base Area Effect Strength(%)} \times \left (1 - \frac{\text{Percentage Effect Negation}}{100} \right ) - \text{Flat Effect Negation} \right \rfloor, 0 \right )</math>
There is no benefit to negating more than the initial effect - For example, if the area has a -40% penalty to Accuracy Rating, there is no difference between having 40% Slayer Area Effect negation and having 50% Slayer Area Effect negation.

Note that the flat negation is applied after the percentage negation. For example, a player wearing both the {{ItemIcon|Slayer Skillcape}} (60% area effect negation) and a {{ItemIcon|Hunter's Ring}} (flat 10% area effect negation) entering an area with a -30% accuracy rating effect would experience only a <math>30 * (1 - 0.6) - 10 = 2\%</math> accuracy reduction.
