'''{{PAGENAME}}''' is used to turn [[Mining#Ores|ore]] into [[Smithing#Bars|bars]], [[Equipment#Weapons|weapons]], [[Equipment|armour]], and [[Headless_Arrows#Uses|arrowtips]]. A number of the armour pieces can be [[Upgrading Items|upgraded]] at the cost of [[GP]] and {{ItemIcon|Silver Bar|Silver}} or {{ItemIcon|Gold Bar|Gold Bars}}, resulting in armour with better stats (most importantly [[Damage Reduction]]).  

All Smithing actions take a base time of 2 seconds. This can be reduced by 15% by purchasing the {{UpgradeIcon|Art of Control}} upgrade, up to 5% with {{ConstellationIcon|Iridan}} ({{MasteryReq|Iridan|60|type=constellation}}), and by 0.3 seconds while the {{ItemIcon|Pig}} + {{ItemIcon|Salamander}} [[Synergy]] is in use. All of these interval reductions combined bring the action time down to 1.3 seconds, the minimum possible in the [[Full Version|base game]].

 

The [[Throne of the Herald]] expansion introduces further interval reductions: {{ItemIcon|Blacksmiths Gloves}} provide a 0.1 second reduction when equipped, {{AgilityIcon|Mountain Trail}} reduces the action time by 0.2 seconds, the {{ItemIcon|Salamander}} + {{ItemIcon|Eagle}} [[Synergy]] provides a 20% reduction (0.1 seconds greater than {{ItemIcon|Pig}} + {{ItemIcon|Salamander}}), 3% with the {{AgilityIcon|Elite Pillar of Expertise}}, and 2% once {{PetIcon|Harold}} is unlocked. The lowest possible action time in the expansion is therefore 0.8 seconds.

 

Skill experience gained while Smithing may be increased significantly with the use of {{ItemIcon|Smithing Gloves}}, providing a 60% experience increase. These gloves may be purchased from the [[Shop]] at a cost of {{GP|100000}} for 500 charges. Smithing gloves are later superseded by {{TotH}} {{ItemIcon|Blacksmiths Gloves}}, which in addition to a 75% skill experience bonus provide +3% Smithing mastery experience and reduce the action time by 0.1 seconds.

The [[Skillcapes|superior skillcape]] can be purchased from the store for {{GP|10000000}} after the player reaches {{SkillReq|{{PAGENAME}}|120}}.

The [[Pets|pet]] can be unlocked by doing any Smithing action. There is no best item to smith to obtain Puff, as all items provide the same chance to unlock the pet.
