Fishing lets you catch fish, which can be cooked to be used as food for combat or thieving. While fishing there is a 70% chance to catch a random fish in the selected area every 5 seconds. This chance can be increased to 100% by equipping the Amulet of Fishing. Raising fishing to level 99 will unlock the Fishing Skillcape for purchase from the Shop. The Fishing Skillcape halves the catch time. Using Fisherman's potions ensures you will catch the highest level fish in the area.
Fishing is used to catch fish, special items and junk which are deposited in the bank. If the Bank becomes full while Fishing, Fishing will continue but any extra items will be lost.

Most fish can be cooked for use as food during Combat or Thieving.

At certain levels, upgrades to the fishing pole used are available in the Skill Upgrades section of the Shop. Upgraded fishing poles reduce the time required to catch fish. Raising Fishing to PAGENAME will unlock the Fishing Skillcape for purchase from the Shop. The Fishing Skillcape doubles the amount of items caught.

Using Fisherman's potions increases the chance to catch double fish by 3-12%, which applies multiplicatively with the guaranteed doubling provided by the Fishing Skillcape.

Fishing Areas
Fishing Areas
New fishing areas are unlocked as your fishing level increases. Areas differ only in the maximum amount of types of fish that can be found in them. Fishing areas display which fish can be caught in them currently. After a random interval of time has passed, a new randomly generated selection of fish will be displayed in each fishing area. Catching fish will not deplete the available fish in a fishing area, with the exception of the Treasure Chest which once caught is removed from the area.
There are 8 Fishing Areas, with different fish located in each Fishing Area. Each area has different chances to obtain junk or special items instead of fish.

The Barbarian Fishing area is unlocked by wearing the Barbarian Gloves. Catching fish in the Barbarian Fishing Area will give Strength and Fishing skill experience. This Strength experience is also affected by the experience bonus from Gold Emerald Ring.

The Secret Area is unlocked by reading the Message in a Bottle in the Bank.

Both the Message in a Bottle and Barbarian Gloves are Fishing#Special items that can be found while fishing.
