Fishing/Training

From Melvor Idle
This page is up to date (v1.0).
This article is about training the Fishing skill. For the skill itself, see Fishing.

Introduction

This page goes through the general method and tips of training the Fishing skill. Fishing is a common skill that players choose to level early because it's an efficient money maker, allowing players to quickly expand their bank slots and begin to explore more game features.

Fishing also can drop rings that are very beneficial in the long run: the Ancient Ring of Skills (item).svg Ancient Ring of Skills and Ancient Ring of Mastery (item).svg Ancient Ring of Mastery. Their drop rate is provided in the Fishing Special section.

Equipment

There is no requirement to start Fishing. One should always use the best Fishing Rod available for purchase in the Shop.

Boosters

The Firemaking Skillcape (item).svg Firemaking Skillcape provides an additional 5% experience to all skills.
The Pyro (pet).png Pyro provides an additional 1% experience to all skills.
The Pirates Lost Ring (item).svg Pirates Lost Ring provides 15% bonus fishing experience when equipped (This can be found while fishing).
The Amulet of Fishing (item).svg Amulet of Fishing provides 15% decreased Fishing interval (This can be found from opening Treasure Chest (item).svg Treasure Chests).
The Fishing Skillcape (item).svg Fishing Skillcape doubles the amount of fish caught.
The Book of Scholars (item).png Book of Scholars provides a +3% boost to XP gained in any skill when worn.
The Fishermans Potion I (item).svg Fishermans Potion provides a chance to double the amount of caught fish. The chance increases with the tier (Mastery.svg Mastery level) of the potion.
The Pudding Duckie (pet).png Pudding Duckie pet provides an additional 5% chance to double items in fishing.

Training

1-5 Raw Shrimp (item).svg Raw Shrimp
5-10 Raw Sardine (item).svg Raw Sardine
10-20 Raw Herring (item).svg Raw Herring
20-35 Raw Trout (item).svg Raw Trout
35-40 Raw Salmon (item).svg Raw Salmon
40-50 Raw Lobster (item).svg Raw Lobster
50-55 Raw Swordfish (item).svg Raw Swordfish, or Raw Anglerfish (item).svg Raw Anglerfish if you care only about Fishing XP.
55-75 Raw Fanfish (item).svg Raw Fanfish
75-85 Raw Cave Fish (item).svg Raw Cave Fish
85-95 Raw Manta Ray (item).svg Raw Manta Ray
95-99 Raw Whale (item).svg Raw Whale

Selling the fish should result in enough gold to upgrade to the best available Fishing Rod in the Shop.

Junk

Changing fishing targets too often has one downside - Junk. It provides 1 XP when received, greatly reducing your overall XP and GP rates.

Players will receive Junk at a fairly high rate (10-29%, depending on location) while fishing until their total mastery progression is at 25% or when the mastery level for an individual fish reaches 65.

Therefore, it is reasonable to spend your mastery pool on getting Fanfish (item).svg Fanfish, Manta Ray (item).svg Manta Rays, and Whale (item).svg Whales, to level 65 in order to remove the chance of Junk, which will boost your speed of progress.

Additional Information

The single most efficient item to obtain for training fishing is the Amulet of Fishing (item).svg Amulet of Fishing, then Fishing Rod upgrades in the Shop, then Pirates Lost Ring (item).svg Pirates Lost Ring.

There is a small chance to acquire the Message in a Bottle (item).svg Message in a Bottle. It will unlock the Secret Area that gives no Junk and has a higher chance of special items.

It has Raw Seahorse (item).svg Raw Seahorse, Raw Skeleton Fish (item).svg Raw Skeleton Fish, and Raw Magic Fish (item).svg Raw Magic Fish.

Fishing for Raw Seahorse (item).svg Raw Seahorse is used to get special items and a pet faster. Raw Skeleton Fish (item).svg Raw Skeleton Fish is a decent way to get prayer points. Raw Magic Fish (item).svg Raw Magic Fish is used to farm GP.

If you fish for special items, you might want to level the fish to 50 with your Mastery Pool for the increased chance of special items.
