This article is about training the Woodcutting skill. For the skill itself, see Woodcutting.

Introduction

This page goes through the general method and tips of training the Woodcutting skill. Woodcutting is used to generate logs which are primarily used in the skills Firemaking and Fletching. Woodcutting also has the chance to produce Bird Nests which can be opened for Seeds for Farming or sold for Making Money

Equipment

There is no requirement to start Woodcutting. One should always use the best Axe available for purchase in the Shop.

Also available in the Shop is Multi-Tree which allows two trees to be cut at the same time, increasing the experience and logs gained per hour.

Boosters

The Firemaking Skillcape provides an additional 5% experience to all skills.
The Pyro pet provides an additional 1% experience to all skills.
The Woodcutting Skillcape reduces base woodcutting interval by 15%
The Bird Nest Potion provides an increased chance for birds nests while chopping logs. Which can be sold to buy Axe upgrades or Multi-Tree
The Beavis pet provides an additional 5% chance to double logs in woodcutting.
The Master of Nature, which can be purchased from the Shop after completing Earth God Dungeon, reduces base woodcutting interval by 15%
The Agility obstacle Stepping Stones reduces base woodcutting interval by 6%

Training

Put simply it is advised to cut the 2 highest level trees available to the player for the higher exp/hr gain, whilst avoiding Magic Trees due to their lower exp per hour compared to most of the lower level trees.
Ensuring you have the most up to date Axes available to your level in the shop will also ensure the fastest experience rates.

1-10 - Normal Trees.
10-25 - Normal Trees & Oak Trees.
25-35 - Oak Trees & Willow Trees.
35-45 - Willow Trees & Teak Trees.
45-55 - Teak Trees & Maple Trees.
55-60 - Maple Trees & Mahagony Trees.
60-90 - Mahagony Trees & Yew Trees.
90-99 - Yew Trees & Redwood Trees.

Experience per hour can easily be calculated per tree as (experience gain/cutting interval)*3600.

Selling logs is advisable to make it possible to purchase essential upgrades such as Axes or Multi-Tree, but this might slow down Firemaking so keeping some is recommended. It is also possible to sell the Bird Nests that are produced, which are worth more unopened on average compared to selling the seeds after opening.
