{{Skill|Mining}} is used to obtain [[Mining#Ores|ores]] and [[Mining#Gems|gems]]. To start Mining no requirements are needed.

Upgrading your pickaxe should be done whenever you have the possibility to. The upgrades are available in the [[Shop#Pickaxes|shop]].

There are several items you can use to increase the rate at which you train the {{Skill|Mining}} skill:

If available to the player then rings such as {{ItemIcon|Aorpheats Signet Ring}}, {{ItemIcon|Ancient Ring of Skills}}, or {{ItemIcon|Ancient Ring of Mastery}} should be equipped depending on whether the player prioritizes item, skill experience, or mastery experience gain.

Mining offers two alternative gloves, both of which can be purchased from the [[Shop#Gloves|Shop]].

{{ItemIcon|Mining Gloves}} - For a cost of {{GP|75,000}}, Mining Gloves increase the base quantity of ores to 2 (or 4 for {{ItemIcon|Rune Essence}} instead). The base quantity can then be doubled by normal means such as mastery.

This method opens up the option to train {{Skill|Smithing}} and {{Skill|Runecrafting}} after {{Skill|Mining}} training has been completed. The key here is to get {{GP|500000}} to purchase {{ItemIcon|Gem Gloves}} to provide a steady source of [[Mining#Gems|gems]] and therefore passive income while Mining. Some sort of [[Money Making]] method is advised to fund the initial purchase of gloves. If in need of money, the gems gained from using {{ItemIcon|Gem Gloves}} can be sold to fund the repurchase of gloves, however note that it is recommended to at least keep any {{ItemIcon|Diamond|Diamonds}} as they are useful in the late game for {{ItemIcon|Diamond Luck Potion IV|notext=true}} [[Diamond Luck Potion|Diamond Luck potions]].

When first starting with Mining, it is recommended to use any [[Mastery#The Mastery Pool|Mastery Pool]] experience to increase the [[Mastery]] level of rock(s) that are currently being mined (or rocks that will soon be mined) to around level 30-40. This is because each [[Mastery]] level increases the [[Mining#Rock HP|Rock HP]], greatly reducing the amount of time spent waiting for rocks to respawn while Mining (as respawning will occur less frequently). In the later levels, it is more beneficial to save pool experience for the [[Mining#Mastery Pool Checkpoints|Mastery pool checkpoint]] bonuses.

Mine either {{ItemIcon|Tin Ore}} or {{ItemIcon|Copper Ore}}. Ideally, an equal amount of tin and copper will be mined in order to create {{ItemIcon|Bronze Bar|Bronze Bars}} for training {{Skill|Smithing}} later.

Mine {{ItemIcon|Iron Ore}} until you unlock {{ItemIcon|Coal Ore}}.

Mine {{ItemIcon|Coal Ore}} until you unlock {{ItemIcon|Mithril Ore}}. Any {{ItemIcon|Coal Ore}} mined will be needed for {{Skill|Smithing}} training later.

From here on it is recommended to mine {{ItemIcon|Mithril Ore}} with {{ItemIcon|Gem Gloves}} equipped all the way until {{SkillReq|Mining|99}}. This is because:

* Mithril is key for {{Skill|Smithing}} training, consuming significantly less {{ItemIcon|Coal Ore}} per bar than higher tier bars

Once 99 Mining is achieved, the {{ItemIcon|Mining Skillcape}} becomes available for purchase from the [[Shop#Skillcapes|Shop]]. When equipped, this provides 1 extra {{ItemIcon|Coal Ore}} for each ore mined.

With the {{ItemIcon|Mining Skillcape}} equipped you have to mine about {{ItemIcon|Rune Essence|qty=160000}} for {{SkillReq|Runecrafting|99}}. {{ItemIcon|Gem Gloves}} do not work with {{ItemIcon|Rune Essence}}, therefore if affordable the {{ItemIcon|Mining Gloves}} are a good alternative to speed up the process.

After mining {{ItemIcon|Rune Essence}}, about {{ItemIcon|Coal Ore|qty=235000}} will still be needed. Equipping {{ItemIcon|Gem Gloves}} while mining this is recommended.
