Slayer areas

Slayer areas are combat areas specific to the Slayer (skill).svg Slayer skill. Unlike other combat areas, killing monsters within these areas will grant the player Slayer (skill).svg Slayer experience equal to 5% of the slain monster's hitpoints. In addition, many of the monsters found within Slayer areas drop unique items that cannot be acquired elsewhere.

Most Slayer areas have entry requirements that must be met before monsters within the area may be successfully attacked. Areas may also have area effects, which will negatively impact the player while in combat.

Entry Requirements

All Slayer areas other than Penumbra (combatArea).svg Penumbra and Forest of Goo (combatArea).svg Forest of Goo have Slayer (skill).svg Slayer level requirements that must be met before monsters within the area may be fought. Some of these areas will also require a specific item of equipment to be worn, this equipment can be purchased with Slayer Coins.svg Slayer Coins from the Shop and must be worn at all times when in combat - if the item is unequipped during combat then all of the player's attacks will miss until the item is re-equipped. Alternatively, the player can equip either the Slayer Skillcape (item).svg Slayer Skillcape, Max Skillcape (item).svg Max Skillcape, or Cape of Completion (item).svg Cape of Completion, which bypasses the equipment requirement for any Slayer areas that have any such requirement.

Dark Waters (combatArea).svg Dark Waters has a unique requirement, where the Into the Mist (dungeon).svg Into the Mist dungeon must have been completed at least once before the area can be entered.

Area Effects

Some Slayer Areas have area effects, which will negatively impact the player while in combat with monsters within that area. The strength of these effects can be reduced by wearing equipment which provides Slayer area effect negation, a complete list of such equipment is provided below.

There are two types of effect negation: percentage and flat, where percentage negations are applied before flat negations. The difference between the two types can be illustrated with a simple example: Suppose an area has an effect of -30% accuracy rating, then:

  • A percentage negation of 10% would reduce the area effect to 90% of its original strength, so the area effect would instead reduce the player's accuracy ratings by [math]30 \times \left (1 - \tfrac{10}{100} \right ) = 27\%[/math]
  • A flat negation of 10% would reduce the area effect by 10 percentage points, which would reduce the player's accuracy ratings by [math]30 - 10 = 20\%[/math]

In other words, the reduced strength of an area effect can be calculated using the following formula:

[math]\text{Reduced Area Effect Strength(%)} = max \left ( \left \lfloor \text{Base Area Effect Strength(%)} \times \left (1 - \frac{\text{Percentage Effect Negation}}{100} \right ) - \text{Flat Effect Negation} \right \rfloor, 0 \right )[/math]
