Ranged affects how good the player is with ranged [[combat]]. It determines what ranged armour and weapons the player can use. The Ranged skill also increases the maximum hit and accuracy rating of ranged weapons. 0.4 Ranged experience is earned per point of damage done while wielding a bow. This can be increased by 7% by equipping the [[Gold Emerald Ring]]. Raising Ranged to level 99 will unlock the [[Ranged Skillcape]] for purchase from the [[Shop]]. Ranged

Ranged is a Combat skill. Unlike Melee, which uses both Attack and Strength when attacking monsters in combat, the player's Ranged level affects both accuracy and damage. The Ranged skill also determines what Ranged armour, Ranged weapons, and ammo the player can use.

Players using Ranged will gain Combat Triangle bonuses against monsters that use Magic and penalties against monsters that use Melee.

Mechanics

There are three Ranged attack styles: Accurate, Rapid, and Longrange. Each Ranged attack uses ammunition (ammo), which is equipped to a dedicated gear slot. Bows use arrows, crossbows use bolts, and javelins and throwing knives act as both a one-handed weapon and their ammo. Ammo can be created in Fletching or obtained by killing monsters.

0.4 Ranged XP is earned per point of damage dealt with a Ranged weapon. When using the Rapid or Accurate styles, this XP is applied directly to the Ranged skill. When using the Longrange style, the XP is split evenly between Ranged and Defence.
