There are many different ways to make money in Melvor Idle, below are some methods that provide the highest rates of GP gain.

For the game version 0.21, the methods below are still viable and have roughly the same power. That means that the most profitable method remains on top, but it could yield a different amount of money compared to what is written there.

Beginners are advised to start with Fishing, as it only requires one skill to level, yields viable output rates and provides the chance to get the Ancient Ring of Mastery and the Ancient Ring of Skills, which will be very helpful on the long run.

Fletching Dragon Javelins with Alt Magic (Max ~9500k/hr)

Changelog.svg This strategy was calculated for v0.18.2 and may have changed in newer updates.

Requirements

  • Woodcutting Level 90
  • Mining Level 95, 270 Mining mastery levels in total
  • Smithing Level 93
  • Fletching Level 92
  • Runecrafting Level 80
  • Magic Level 95

Improves GP Rate

Method

  1. Mine Dragonite Ore and Runite Ore in a 1:2 ratio. Ideally Mining Skillcape and Mining Gloves are equipped and Perfect Swing Potions are active while mining
  2. Mine Rune Essence while the Mining Skillcape and Mining Gloves are equipped. Potions do not need to be active here due to the very low respawn time of Rune Essence
  3. Cut Redwood Logs. Simultaneously cutting Normal Logs with Bird Nest Potion IV active will drop a significant amount of Bird Nests which can later be sold, greatly increasing the GP rate
  4. Runecraft Fire Runes, Nature Runes, and Spirit Runes in a 7:2:3 ratio
  5. Smelt Dragonite Bars using Superheat IV while the Magic Skillcape and Mystic Earth Staff are equipped (avoids the need for any Earth Runes)
  6. Smith Dragon Javelin Heads, equipping the Crown of Rhaelyx and using Charge Stones for a reasonable increase in the GP rate
  7. Fletch Dragon Javelins while the Fletching Skillcape is equipped and Skilled Fletching Potion IV is active. Using Charge Stones while the Crown of Rhaelyx is equipped during this step provides a significant increase to the GP rate

Smithing Dragon Platebodies (Max 2117k/hr)

Changelog.svg This strategy was calculated for v0.14 and may have changed in newer updates.

Requirements

Improves GP Rate

Method

  1. Gather Dragonite Ore, Runite Ore and Coal Ore in a 1:2:6 ratio. This should be done wearing the Mining Skillcape. Depending on Mastery Levels and whether or not Diamond Luck Potions are being made, either Gem Gloves or Mining Gloves should be worn.
  2. Make Dragonite Bars while wearing the Smithing Skillcape.
  3. Make Dragon Platebodies
  4. Make the diamonds into Diamond Luck Potions with the Herblore Skillcape if possible.
  5. Sell the Gems, Diamond Luck Potions and Dragon Platebodies for profit

GP Rates with different Equipment and Mastery

The mastery in the tables below assume that every item has that mastery level. Note that the time to gather the ingredients for and make Perfect Swing Potions has not been included in the calculation due to it being negligible. It is also assumed that the Barrentoe Herbs for creating Diamond Luck Potions is grown concurrently during the money-making method, and do not add additional time.

Calculating the GP Rate

The GP rate can be calculated by finding the profit of completing a single platebody action and dividing by the time to complete the action and gather/craft all sub-components.

Fishing

Raw Whales (Max Coins.svg 2,099k/hr)

Requirements

  • Fishing Level 95

Improves GP Rate

Name Description
Dragon Fishing Rod The strongest Fishing Rod, reduces fishing catch time by 40%.
Amulet of Fishing Reduces fishing catch time by 15%. (Stacks multiplicatively with Fishing Rod bonus)
Fishing Skillcape Doubles the number of fish caught.
File:Aorpheats Signet Ring (item).png Aorpheats Signet Ring Increases the chance of doubling the number of fish caught by 10%.
Pudding Duckie Increases the chance of doubling the number of fish caught by 5%.
Level 99 Doubles the number of fish caught.
50% Fishing Mastery Pool Checkpoint Provides a 5% chance to catch double fish.
95% Fishing Mastery Pool Checkpoint Provides a 25% chance to receive an additional random special item whenever special items are received.
Fishermans Potion IV Increases the chance of doubling the number of fish caught by 12%. (requires Herblore Level 40)

NOTE: The Fishing Skillcape and Level 99 Mastery bonuses will stack, causing at least four fish to be caught each time. The Signet Ring, pet bonus and Fishermans Potion and the 50% Mastery Pool Checkpoint will provide a 32% chance of catching eight fish.

Expected Outputs Per Hour

Method

Equip Fishing gear and fish for Whales. Each piece of equipment will give a substantial boost to profit per hour. 65 Whale Mastery or 25% Fishing Mastery Pool Checkpoint are the most important targets, either of which will remove the junk catch chance. Fishing is the most profitable single-skill money making method, though it gets outclassed by the multiplicative benefits of the combinations above. This method does not include extra gold gained from special chances which would boost profit per hour marginally. Maximum gp/hr rates assume all improvements to GP rate are obtained and in use.

Alternative Fish

Players who do not yet have level 95 fishing may also choose to consider the following options: (Note that the numbers below include the boost from the Fishing Skillcape, and as such the actual profit per hour will be substantially lower for players who do not have it)

Fletching Magic Longbows (Max 975k/hr)

Changelog.svg This strategy was calculated for v0.14 and may have changed in newer updates.

Requirements

Method

By utilizing the output doubling of the Fletching Skillcape, the value of magic logs can be more than quadrupled; it is doubled once making unstrung bows, and another time making strung bows. Profits can be further increased by using Skilled Fletching Potion IV and Aorpheats Signet Ring. To calculate the maximum GP per hour, 99 mastery level will be assumed. The entire process is as follows:

  1. Cut yew logs and magic logs simultaneously while wearing the Woodcutting Skillcape. The yew logs should be sold.
  2. Fletch the magic logs into Magic Longbow (u) while wearing the Fletching Skillcape.
  3. Purchase bowstrings from the Shop and fletch the unstrung bows into Magic Longbow.
  4. Sell the longbows for profit.

Without using Aorpheats Signet Ring and Skilled Fletching Potion IV profits are around 624k/hr, however, using the ring and potion increases profits by 351k/hr.

Mining with Gem Gloves (Max 729k/hr Idle)

Requirements

Improves GP Rate

Method

This method relies on Gem Gloves increasing the gem chance to 100% when mining (excluding Rune Essence). The average value of a Gem is Coins.svg 381.25, while a single charge of the Gem Gloves costs only Coins.svg 250. Thus Coins.svg 131.25 of profit is earned per mining action from gems. It is recommended to use this method while gathering the large quantities of ore required to train the Smithing skill.

With the Dragon Pickaxe, Master of Nature, Level 99, and Perfect Swing Potion IVs, and the Mining Skillcape, an average of 2,423 Dragonite Ore mining actions can be done per hour. Between the ore, extra ore from the pickaxe and mastery double ore chance, the gems from the gloves, and the coal, Coins.svg 279 profit is earned per action on average, for a total of Coins.svg 728,960 profit per hour.

With the Dragon Pickaxe and Level 50, an average of 2,117 Adamantite Ore mining actions can be done per hour. Between the ore, extra ore from the pickaxe and mastery double ore chance, and the gems from the gloves, Coins.svg 219 profit is earned per action on average, for a total of Coins.svg 486,114 profit per hour.

Woodcutting

Chopping Magic and Yew Logs (Max Coins.svg 1,243k/hr)

Requirements

  • Woodcutting Level 75

Method

Simply cut down Magic Logs and your chosen secondary log (if the Multi-Tree upgrade has been purchased) and sell the logs and bird nests for profit.

Expected Resources Per Hour

The maximum rates assume Dragon Axe, Multi-Tree, Signet, Clue Chaser's Insignia, Beavis, Master of Nature, Woodcutting Skillcape, 95% Woodcutting Mastery Pool Checkpoint and 99 log mastery. Bird Nests are only provided once per action.

Logs Requirements Expected Output/Hr Max GP/Hr
Magic Logs Woodcutting Level 75 1,563

Coins.svg 941k
Yew Logs Woodcutting Level 60 2,700 Coins.svg 302k

Chopping Logs With Bird Nests Potions (Max Coins.svg 3,304k/hr)

Requirements

  • Woodcutting Level 10
  • Herblore Level 1

Please note: Although the requirements seem low, using Bird Nests Potion IV and minimum action time (Dragon Axe, Woodcutting Skillcape and Master of Nature god upgrade) are advised or else the GP rate drops significantly.

Method

Cut down Normal Logs and your chosen secondary log (if the Multi-Tree upgrade has been purchased) and sell the logs and bird nests for profit. A portion of the nests can be opened for Potato Seeds to make more potions.

With Bird Nest Potion II and below, players should cut Normal and Magic Logs for maximum profit.

Expected Resources Per Hour

The maximum rates assume all improvements to GP rates have been obtained and that the player already has the Bird Nest Potions IV made.

Combat

Combat can yield some of the highest GP rates in the game. Due to the complexity of combat, exact rates are difficult to determine, but some of the highest GP rate targets are as follows: Infernal Stronghold, Master Farmers, Black Dragons.

When you reach the endgame in combat, it becomes the best money making method. The 2 items that makes this money making method really good are Chapeau Noir and Aorpheat's Signet Ring. (Infernal Stronghold got nerfed in Patch v0.19: Malcs, the Leader of Dragons now drops 100K - 150K GP on death, down from 150K - 225K GP. Resulting in 125,000 less gp/clear or around 18% reduced gp/hr) Calculating the specific gp/hr depends on your stats, your gear and what method you want to use. Using the Combat Simulator in Scripting and Extensions is very powerfull. And can show you, mainly for this, how many kills/hr you are doing. The one of the most valuable dungeons to farm is the Infernal Stronghold The reason for this is that it drops a lot of pure gp, which gets doubled with the Aorpheat's Signet Ring. Dropping 100,000 to 150,000 gp, average is then 125,000. Double that is 250,000 gp/clear. On top of that it drops 1 Infernal Cape and 1 Infernal Core. The cape is worth 250,000 gp (which you can High Alchemy III for 1,6 times the value at a total of 400,000gp) The core is only woth 1,500gp. The 5% and 10% chance for double loot from the Chapeau Noir and Aorpheat's Signet Ring dosent work on the cape. Meaning clearing Infernal Stronghold will grant you 250,000+400,000+1,500gp = 651,500gp/clear.

Would advice you to get the extention and look at whats the best option for you. If you dont want to use the extension i will list some diffrent setups below.

I will list the loadouts with gear, stats, kills/hr and gp/hr. All of the sets will have Aorpheat's Signet Ring in ring slot, and no passive slot unless mentioned. And no Prayer or Potions.

Magic (Max ~12652k/hr)

Full Glacia God Armor, Elite Amulet of Magic, Skull Cape, Air Imbued Wand, Book of Eli, 85 Magic, using Wind Surge (2,610 runes/hr), 9,5 kills/hr = 6,189,250 gp/hr

Full Glacial God Gear, Elite Amulet of Magic, Skull Cape, Fire Imbued Wand, Book of Eli, 85 Magic, using Fire Surge (12,850 runes/hr), 10,5 kills/hr = 6,840,750 gp/hr

Full Glacia God Armor, Elite Amulet of Magic, Skull Cape, Air Imbued Wand, Book of Eli, 85 Magic, using Slicing Winds (15,010 runes/hr), 12,93 kills/hr = 8,423,895 gp/hr

Full Glacia God Armor, Elite Amulet of Magic, Skull Cape, Air Imbued Wand, Book of Eli, 99 Magic, using Gust (16,900 runes/hr), 15 kills/hr = 9,772,500 gp/hr

Full Glacia God Armor, Elite Amulet of Magic, Skull Cape, Ocean Song, Book of Eli, Warlock Ring ( Signet in Passive slot), 99 Magic, using Water Surge (10,380 runes/hr), 19,42 kills/hr = 12,652,130 gp/hr

Remember to take the crafting of runes into account. Looking at the Max Magic right above 10,380 runes at maxed mining and runecrafting takes around 20min to get, 5min mining essence and 15min runecrafting. Putting it down to a efficient 9,5mil gp/hr

Melee (Max ~8449k/hr)

Full Terran God Gear, Amulet of Torture, Infernal Cape, Infernal Claw, Dragonfire Shield, 85 Melee stats, 85 hp, 6,57 kills/hr = 4,280,355 gp/hr

Full Ragnar God Gear, Amulet of Torture, Infernal Cape, Infernal Claw, Earth Layered Shield, 85 Melee stats, 90 hp, 7,63 kills/hr = 4,970,945 gp/hr

Full Ragnar God Gear, FEZ, Infernal Cape, Tidal Edge, Earth Layered Shield, Fighter Ring ( Signet in Passive slot), 99 Melee stats, 99 hp, 12,97 kills/hr = 8,449,955 gp/hr

Ranged (Max ~8730k/hr)

Full Aeris God Gear, Elite Amulet of Ranged, Ancient Crossbow, Emerald Bolts, Dragonfire Shield, Infernal Cape, 85 Ranged, 90 hp, 7,27 kills/hr = 4,736,405 gp/hr

Full Aeris God Gear, Deadeye Amulet, Shockwave, Emerald Bolts, Dragonfire Shield, Cape of Prat, Deadeye Ring ( Signet in Passive slot), 99 Ranged, 99 hp, 13,4 kills/hr = 8,730,100 gp/hr

Summary of combat:

Magic is king. You need BiS setup and 99 stats to beat 85 magic in god armor.
