This page is out of date (v1.0.2).
This article is about training the Mining skill. For the skill itself, see Mining.

Training

It is recommended to use Gem Gloves (item).svg Gem Gloves while leveling. They will provide a stream of gems that you can sell for profit. Keep Emerald (item).svg Emeralds for Emerald Bolts (item).svg Emerald Bolts and Diamond (item).svg Diamonds for Diamond Luck Potion I (item).svg Diamond Luck Potions.

If you don't have money to buy Gem Gloves (item).svg Gem Gloves, either sell Mithril Ore (item).svg Mithril Ore, smelt and sell Gold Bar (item).svg Gold Bars, or get money through the Fishing (skill).svg Fishing money-making method.

It is also recommended to use any Mastery Pool experience to increase the Mastery.svg Mastery level of nodes that you're about to mine to level 30. The Mastery.svg Mastery level of a node increases the Rock HP, greatly reducing the waiting time for the node to respawn. Later, it is more beneficial to save the pool experience for the Mastery pool bonuses.

Follow the list below. Mine Copper Ore (item).svg Copper Ore and Tin Ore (item).svg Tin Ore in approximately equal amounts for Smithing (skill).svg Smithing, and keep all Coal Ore (item).svg Coal Ore for the same reason.

Level Ore
1-15 Copper Ore (item).svg Copper Ore or Tin Ore (item).svg Tin Ore
15-30 Iron Ore (item).svg Iron Ore
30-50 Coal Ore (item).svg Coal Ore
50-80 Mithril Ore (item).svg Mithril Ore
80-99 Runite Ore (item).svg Runite Ore

We transition from Mithril Ore (item).svg Mithril directly to Runite Ore (item).svg Runite because otherwise we stretch the mastery thin across the ores, which leads to more ore-respawn downtime, resulting in slower progression.
