Each skilling action has a mastery level associated with it. This mastery level gains experience each time you do that action. The mastery level gives bonuses to that action. For example with Farming, above mastery level 50 a crop doesn't need compost anymore. And with Cooking above mastery level 10 gives you the ability to queue 10 fish with one click.
