While secondary ingredients can be acquired in a variety of ways, herbs are acquired exclusively through the {{Skill|Farming}} skill until the player can make the {{ItemIcon|Lucky Herb Potion I|Lucky Herb Potion}} at {{SkillReq|Herblore|50}}. As such, players looking to train Herblore will need to start by training Farming.
Each potion requires both an herb and a secondary ingredient. Secondary ingredients are typically associated with the skill the potion is paired with (e.g. {{ItemIcon|Secret Stardust Potion IV|Secret Stardust Potion}} and {{ItemIcon|Stardust}}). Herbs can be acquired primarily through planting their seeds in {{Skill|Farming}}, but can also be acquired through {{Icon|Combat}} and {{Skill|Thieving}}.

== Training Efficiently ==

As herbs are primarily obtained through {{Skill|Farming}}, players will often find that herbs are the primary bottleneck on how quickly they can train Herblore. For this reason, it is recommended that players focused on levelling Herblore as quickly as possible attempt to maximize their XP per herb rather than simply crafting the potion that grants them the most XP.

When deciding which herbs to plant you should aim to plant the highest level herb you can use in a potion that only requires one of that herb. This means that although {{ItemIcon|Lemontyle Herb|Lemontyle Herbs}} can be used starting at {{SkillReq|Herblore|40}} to make {{ItemIcon|Fishermans Potion I|Fishermans Potions}} for 36 XP each, continuing to make {{ItemIcon|Seeing Gold Potion I|Seeing Gold Potions}} until {{SkillReq|Herblore|45}} will give more XP per herb used as Seeing Gold Potions only require one herb instead of two.

Players should also plan ahead and make sure they plant only as many herbs of each type as they will need. For example, once a player has enough {{ItemIcon|Garum Herb|Garum Herbs}} to reach {{SkillReq|Herblore|15}} they should swap to growing {{ItemIcon|Sourweed Herb|Sourweed Herbs}} instead as they will give more XP each when used.

Note that these guidelines should be followed only if the player's primary goal is gaining Herblore XP as quickly as possible. Otherwise players should focus their training on potions they plan to use in order to build Mastery XP towards unlocking higher tiers.

This page is up to date (v1.2.2).
This article is about the Herblore skill. For training the skill, see Herblore/Training.
Herblore

Herblore is used to make potions that grant bonuses to various skills and combat actions. A single potion has multiple charges and will not be consumed until all the charges are depleted. Potions must first be equipped for use, with each skill having its own potion slot, accessible by selecting the potion icon at the top right of the game screen. The automatic re-use of potions can be enabled through the potion menu.

Raising Herblore to Herblore Level 99 will unlock the Herblore Skillcape for purchase from the Shop. Equipping the Herblore Skillcape doubles potion production. Making a potion normally takes 2 seconds. Purchasing the Expanded Knowledge upgrade reduces this time by 15% to 1.7 seconds, with Qimican reducing the time by another 5%.

Potion Tiers

New tiers of potions are unlocked at certain Mastery levels. Once a tier has been unlocked, new potions brewed will automatically be made at that tier. If you somehow miss a tier, any tier of potion can be obtained through the use of Herblore Potions. All tiers of a potion cost the same materials and reward the same experience, providing additional charges and/or more potent effects as the tier increases.

Potions in the bank can be upgraded to the next tier once the player has the appropriate Mastery level at a 3:1 ratio. For example, a player with Level 20 can convert three Melee Accuracy Potion Is into one Melee Accuracy Potion II.

Tier XP to Tier
I 1 0

Acquiring Herbs

Each potion requires both an herb and a secondary ingredient. Secondary ingredients are typically associated with the skill the potion is paired with (e.g. Secret Stardust Potion and Stardust). Herbs can be acquired primarily through planting their seeds in Farming, but can also be acquired through Combat and Thieving.

Combat Potions

Skill Potions

When using potions that have a chance to activate, a charge is consumed whenever a relevant action is performed, whether or not the potion's effect actually activates for that action.

For example, if using a Bird Nest Potion I, a charge will be consumed every time a log is cut regardless of whether a Bird Nest is received.

Herblore-Boosting Potions

There are two potions that can be used while training Herblore

Potion Tier Charges Effect

Summoning Boosts

This table shows all the Summoning Familiars and Synergies that provide a bonus to Herblore.

Skill Boosts

This table lists most sources of Herblore-specific modifier boosts. For a list of boosts that apply to all skills, see the Skill Boosts page. This list does not contain boosts provided from Mastery rewards.
