Fishing lets you catch fish, which can be cooked to be used as food for combat or thieving. While fishing there is a 70% chance to catch a random fish in the selected area every 5 seconds. This chance can be increased to 100% by equipping the Amulet of Fishing. Raising fishing to level 99 will unlock the Fishing Skillcape for purchase from the Shop. The Fishing Skillcape halves the catch time. Using Fisherman's potions ensures you will catch the highest level fish in the area.
PAGENAME is used to catch fish, special items, and junk. Many of the fish may be cooked with Cooking for use as food during Combat or Thieving, while a number of others can be used as ingredients for Herblore potions or Summoning tablets.

Of the special items obtained from Fishing, the Ancient Ring of Skills and Ancient Ring of Mastery are particularly noteworthy due to the skill and Mastery experience bonuses they provide for all non-combat skills. These rings are however also considered some of the rarest items in the game, and can take a significant amount of time to obtain.

Mechanics
The amount of time each Fishing action takes can be reduced by 5-40% by purchasing fishing rods from the Shop, 15% with the Amulet of Fishing, 5% with the second unique star of Ameria (), 3% with the TotH Elite Pillar of Expertise, 2% with TotH Harold, and 0.5 seconds while the Octopus + TotH Eagle Synergy is active.

Fishing benefits from a couple of guaranteed item doubling bonuses, one being the Fishing Skillcape perk, while the other is obtained by reaching a Mastery level of 99 in the fish being caught. While both are active, the quantity of fish caught per action is guaranteed to be at least 4. These bonuses apply multiplicatively with the chance to double items, and so the quantity of fish gained from a single action can be as much as 8.

TotH Lost Chest may drop in addition to the usual action rewards if the Corundum Fishing Rod has been purchased or if the Superior Fishing Skillcape is equipped, and can also drop from base game fish. When opened, lost chests may contain any of the superior gems, Runestone or any of the three fishing consumables: Fishing Hook, Golden Reel, and Burning Reel. The last two consumables are exclusive to the lost chest and cannot be obtained elsewhere.

Fishing Areas
Fishing Areas
New fishing areas are unlocked as your fishing level increases. Areas differ only in the maximum amount of types of fish that can be found in them. Fishing areas display which fish can be caught in them currently. After a random interval of time has passed, a new randomly generated selection of fish will be displayed in each fishing area. Catching fish will not deplete the available fish in a fishing area, with the exception of the Treasure Chest which once caught is removed from the area.

There are 15 Fishing Areas, with different fish located in each Fishing Area. Each area has different chances to obtain junk or special items instead of fish. The chance to obtain special items can be reduced by wearing the Sailor's Top, which can be useful to maximise the amount of fish obtained.

Mastery Unlocks
The Barbarian Fishing area is unlocked by wearing the Barbarian Gloves. Catching fish in the Barbarian Fishing Area will give Strength and Fishing skill experience. This Strength experience is also affected by the experience bonus from Gold Emerald Ring.
Fishing Mastery level currently has no effect on fishing, although this will likely change in a future update.

The Secret Area is unlocked by reading the Message in a Bottle in the Bank. After the first reading, the bottle has no further use and can be safely sold.

The Fisherman's enclave is unlocked by discovering AoD Fisherman's Enclave in Cartography.

Both the Message in a Bottle and Barbarian Gloves are special items that can be found while fishing.

Fish
As the player's Fishing level increases, new fish that give more experience will become available to catch.

In addition:
* Leaping Trout, Leaping Salmon, and Leaping Broad Fish, will train Strength when caught, giving 10, 15, and 25 experience respectively.
* Raw Skeleton Fish can be buried for 3 Prayer points each.
* Raw Magic Fish can be eaten to restore health without cooking.
* Raw Poison Fish and Raw Ghost Fish are used as an ingredients for the Performance Enhancing Potion and Reaper Potion respectively.

The Cooking level is given for all of the fish that can be cooked to increase their health restore value.

Most fish, including those that cannot be cooked, can be used in Summoning:
* Octopus: if they require Fishing or lower
* TotH Siren: if they require Fishing or higher

Fishing Rods
Higher levels of fishing allow you to purchase better fishing rods from the Shop. The bonus speed is actually a percent reduction in the time that it takes to catch a fish.
Fishing rods are permanent upgrades purchased from the that decrease the amount of time it takes to catch fish. The later rods also provide a number of other bonuses, as listed in the table below. The bonuses provided by these upgrades are permanently active once purchased i.e. they do not need to be equipped or otherwise enabled.

Special items can be randomly acquired instead of fish while Fishing. They reward the same amount of XP as the fish that was being caught. Treasure is chosen from the following loot table:

To maximize the chance of obtaining special items, players may:
| style ="text-align: left;" |
* Select fish that are both within an area with a high special chance and have a low catch time - Raw Seahorse and Raw Skeleton Fish are ideal choices
| style ="text-align: left;" |Iron Fishing Rod
* Gain a mastery level of at least 50 in the fish being caught, which increases the special chance by 3%
| style ="text-align: right;" |1
* Reduce the catch time by using all available interval reductions, which are listed within the Mechanics section
| style ="text-align: right;" |5%
* Reach the 95% Mastery pool checkpoint
| style ="text-align: right;" | 50
* Have the Octopus and Ent Summoning synergy equipped, increasing the special chance by 6%

* Increase the Mastery level of Ameria to 20, as that star's unique modifier can increase the special chance by up to 5%

Conversely, to reduce the chances of obtaining special items, player may:
| style ="text-align: right;" |10
* Have the Sailor%27s_Top equipped, reducing the special chance by 8%. This item can be pickpocketed from the .

Junk items are randomly caught instead of fish. They can also be obtained as contents of a Treasure Chest. Most of them have for only use , but the Rope can also be upgraded into Bowstring. They reward only 1 XP when caught, and are selected from the following table:

| style ="text-align: left;" |Black Fishing Rod
You can prevent the catch of Junk items if the mastery level of the intended catch is of 65 and beyond for that specific fish, or globally with the 25% Fishing Mastery Checkpoint.
