This article is about training the Farming skill. For the skill itself, see Farming.

Training

Plant the highest level seed in each plot. Unlocking extra plots when available will increase the amount of experience gained drastically.

Farming gains experience based on the number of items harvested for allotment and herb patches, while trees grant a fixed amount of experience. Therefore, using items like Compost will increase gains by reducing the amount of crop failures. Weird Gloop further increases the harvest per crop, yielding even more experience from allotment and herb patches.

The large amount of experience gained when harvesting trees is quite useful in the earlier levels. However, as the experience from trees does not scale with the number of logs harvested they become increasingly irrelevant in the later levels.

Generous Harvest Potions can be used to increase the size of the harvest, but cannot be created until later as it will require planting both Snape Grass Seeds and Carrot Seeds, as well as Herblore Level 74 Herblore.

There are a number of methods that can be used to gain a large amount of seeds: Thieving with Bob the Farmer, Woodcutting with Bird Nest Potion, or Combat with Junior Farmer, Adult Farmer, and Master Farmer. Other monsters may drop individual seeds at higher rates than these options, but at the start the goal is to collect a wide variety of seeds as fast as possible.
