Compost is a material used to prevent 
Farming patches from dying. Up to five buckets of compost may be used on a single patch, and each bucket used will increase the chance that the seed survives by 10%. Using five buckets on the same patch will guarantee that crops survive.
Although it cannot be upgraded directly, players may purchase 
Weird Gloop from the store for 2 Compost and 10 
Rune Essence per bucket. Only one bucket of Weird Gloop is needed to protect a patch from death and will also provide a +10% increase to the crop's harvest.
With a 
Dragon Pickaxe, it takes an average of 7 seconds to mine 10 Rune Essence (When accounting for the Dragon Pickaxe's 7% chance to double ores received). At 500 per bucket and three buckets of compost saved per bucket of Weird Gloop, mining essence to turn into Weird Gloop saves the player approximately 771,000 coins per hour. (In practice this number will likely be slightly higher due to added double ore chance from Mastery)
